Once up on a time, there was one name which used to keep the Indian Cricket team go strong on fields…. yes, it’s none other than Mahendra Singh Dhoni. His excellent mentoring role gave him the tag of CAPTAIN COOL. He was not only known for his exceptional role as captain and behind the wickets… but also as one of the finest finishers of a match in the Indian Squad. He is one such captain in the Indian cricket History you gave India the number one Rank in Test and ODI. Again he was the one under whose leadership India won the world cup and T- 20 world cup. He added so many feathers on his hat as captain and managed to prove him one of the most loved and admired captain of India after Sourav Ganguly.
He took early retirement from Test Cricket and also left captaincy from all cricket formats but still, he remained one of the default players in the Indian squad. But as per latest update from selection committee, MS will no longer remain the automatic choice for ODI and just like any other player in the team he too needs to show his performance in every match to make his place in the 2019 World Cup Indian Squad. This statement was given by none other than chief selector MSK Prasad.
At the age of 36, his power as an excellent finisher on the field is winning and that is quite alarming for the overall performance of the team. Keeping this fact in mind, the selectors need to be very choosy for picking the members of the Indian squad. This rule is applicable for each member of the team and selection board is no more ready to compromise with a fitness of players.
As of now, MS Dhoni managed to stay in the team for the 5 ODIs and one T20 Sri Lanka series. On the other hand, Yuvraj Singh who struggled really hard to prove his fitness failed to make his place in the Sri Lanka Series squad.
Further while talking to press Mr Prasad made it clear that cricket Board (BCCI) will now onwards introduce fitness as one of the key factors for selection of Indian squad based on the performance in fielding levels. The loss in the ICC Champions Trophy clearly indicated that team fitness was not up to mark that time and so it’s mandatory to keep an eye on fitness from now onwards.
BCCI is also planning to launch the policy of player rotation after every 4 to 5 months time. This will be done to identify those players who will prove them fit to be a part of the 2019 World Cup tournament team.
Being a true fan of Indian Cricket we do believe that at this age Dhoni remained supremely fit and excellent with his glove work. But still, there are different opinions about his batting as age is fast catching up the batting abilities he used to posses. Hope Dhoni will prove the committee wrong and will show his tremendous capabilities as a batsman with his very old and popular helicopter style and as a fielder too.
